![]() ![]() I also like the idea of humans that inherit other subraces, or inform their own "half-x" subraces Part of me wishes that's how they did Half-Orc and Half-Elf but then we'd a) lose out on the awesomely powerful Half-Elf they gave us and b) make for a lot more work for little payoff, especially if the base benefit of being a human is simply that you have a few extra points to throw around. Now, I'm not saying that if you try to make a system like this that you shouldn't use the base and variant human archetypes - As a matter of fact, I encourage it - but if your subraces aren't mechanically diverse enough from the regular product then it'd probably just be easier to say "Everyone plays a human". The only problem I have with the Plane Shift's interpretation of it is that Stensian Humans are literally just variant humans designed to tank, and Gavony humans are no different from your regular human. Human subraces is something I often ponder on a sleepless night where I consider homebrew possibilities. Get PS:I to add ideas for your Hallowe'en sessions, and enjoy the Call of C'thulu-reminiscent Sanity shenanigans of Emrakul. Not bad, but nothing makes me sit up and take notice like the races and monsters of PS:Z did. It really does underline that D&D already does gothic horror perfectly fine on its own: Ravenloft adventures may as well include Innistrad and its four provinces by canon now, for all the similarities.Ħ/10. The best summary, however, might be the amount of times the phrase "Use X instead of Y" is repeated. Ravenloft can take that mechanic and run with it, as can an Eberron campaign involving the daelkyr or a Fairly-Well-Known Realms with the Far Realm influence. The major mechanic that I like the sound of is the suggestion that the Sanity score gets tied to mutations. The other monster variants are all good and well. The only things I'd call valuable is the human variants and the 'Frightful Presence' option it offers for angels. Unlike the Zendikar book, this doesn't add much. Alright, having read the book, I have a the opinion of "eh".
